Sixth grade at St. Justin Martyr is the beginning of an exciting time called - Middle School! Students go from class to class much like they will in high school as they tackle their science, English, and literature. The remaining subjects, math, spelling, social studies and religion are taught in their homeroom. One of the highlights in sixth grade is the trip to science camp. This is a trip filled with fun and exciting learning experiences that enhance the science curriculum. Other interesting projects include a career project that has the students creating themselves at their jobs 20 years into the future.
Religion classes in the sixth grade cover the Old Testament. In social studies the students learn about ancient civilizations in countries like Rome, Greece, Egypt, and China. Math includes the beginning of a two year course in pre-Algebra.. Science includes the three branches of life science, earth science, and physical science. Students read from a wide variety of genre and enhance their writing skills through grammar and creative writing assignments in their Language Arts classes.
Sixth grade is full of hard work, fun, and growth!
