What goes On in the 8th Grade Class !

WHAT GOES ON IN THE 8TH GRADE CLASS!

The 8th grade class is tops!  After all this is the 8th graders' last school year.  There are many activities outside of the academic realm of an 8th graders' school life!

First and foremost, majority of the leadership in our school lies in the hands of the 8th grade class.  Almost three fourths of the class belong to the Student Council.  The current president, Ashley Orate spearheads the daily morning assembly.  She is assisted by Emily Bagnol, the vice-president, together with Brenna Saunooke and Sean Rickard , the Spirit councilors and the two athletic councilors, Dakota Burt and Adrienne Rigor.  Every Friday afternoon, Ashley leads the weekly Student Council meeting where activities fro the whole student body are planned.  As of this writing, plans are being made tEarth Day and to renew the awareness of recyling plastic bottles to help save the planet.  The remainder of the school year will prove to be very busy for the Student Council because of the many activities lined up right after Easter.  They are the May Crowning, Teacher Appreciation Week, Spirit Week and Student Council Elections.

Presently the 8th grade students are preparing for the annual Living Stations of the Cross presentations.  This event will happen on April 15 with the first presentation being part of Grandparents' Day, at 1:45 P.M.  The second presentation for the parents and the parish will be held at 7 P.M.  It is a very touching re-enactment of the Stations of the Cross with 8th grade students as the actors.  It is a once in a lifetime experience for our 8th grade students and they are very proud to take part in it.

How does a day in the life of an 8th grader go on?  After the morning assembly in O'Connor Hall, we begin our day with our very own morning prayers comprised of hte Morning Offering and the Act of Consecration to Mary.  This gives all students the opportunity to take turns as prayer leaders and also to mention their personal prayer petitions.  Many of their sick relatives and friends, and members of our very own school staff benefit from their powerful intercessions.  They have also learned to sing an opening prayer song  to the Holy Spirit as well as used a Powerpoint prayer to the Holy Spirit to guide and inspire them through their lessons of the day.  As the day comes to a close,  other responsibilities come along in terms of opening the school gates, taking down the flags and preparing for dismissal duties as members of the Safety Patrol.

Eighth graders seem to be a really busy group of kids.  In the academic arena, they have to always be on their best, in fulfilling the requirements of their daily learning activities in preparation for high school.  At this time of the year, almost all of the 8th grade students have already know which hiogh school they will be attending next school year.  A good number of the students will be attending Servite High School for boys, Rosary High School and Cornelia Connelly High School for girls, and Mater Dei High School for both boys and girls.  The rest of the students will be attending the public high schools in thier local areas, such as Loara High School, Troy HIgh School and Marina HIgh School.

Altogether, when June 10th comes, all of them will don their graduation gowns in red and white.  They will be marching down the church aisle to receive their coveted diplomas and they will leave the portals of St. Justin Martyr School.  All the memories of elementary school life will be all that remains.
